UNPAID BILL 5639 CRORE TAKA WHY DOES ELECTRICITY BILL GO UP? BM views, 14 January, 2007: A lthough the sound pounded few days ago and stopped instantly, yet we are amazed why does the increase of the electricity bill and why this proposal in the case the people burst in the last era. So we request to the Bangladesh Electricity Development Board, and DESA, DESCO, Rural Electrification Board to recover the unpaid bills and pay the dues in full swing for avoiding the disturbances in the summer. The Bangladesh Economic Survey -2005 suggests that the amount of the bill Bangladesh Electricity Development Board's unpaid bill to the different government establishments and companies is worth of 4621.23 crore taka up to March 2005, on the other hand the liabilities of the company worth of 5701.94 should be paid and analysis whether there is any mismanagement conducted .In addition, for the case of DESA the amount of the unpaid bill is 1018 crore taka; on the other hand, the liabilities of the company is worth of 3199.69 . We request to the respective Ministry to mange the problem before any crisis begins in the summer. N.B. Recently it is investigated that the signboard of the Electricity Building (Bidhut Bhabon ) near Secretary building is broken . Even the switch boards of different areas are theft and the connections are open which might cause serious accident. Inshallah those pictures shall be included in the site in order to watch the carelessness of the electricity supplying authority. Follow up on 20 October 2010: Nearly three years ago we tried to catch the attention of the GOB through this report that the signboard that was hoisting at the top of the Electricity Building at Secretariat area in Dhaka is broken. Moreover we tried to catch their attention that the switchboards which are located at different parts of Dhaka are also theft. It is very surprising and shocking that those were neglected and with this negligence, any body can suspect that what has been happening inside different establishments set up for the electricity. We, from the very beginning, tried to catch the attention to the concerned authority that Kaptai is one of the sources of electricity. The capacity can be intensified through the upgradation. Once we simply proposed, the allies of the vested group reported in different dailies that the water of Kaptai Lake has been flowing below the required level! The objective is to leave the project barren and to set up expensive establishments importing foreign goods by paying millions of taka. If you go there just now, you will find that water is an adequate flow of water and the machineries have been left rusty and no activity there can be comparable to the switch boards located at the corner of the busy streets of Dhaka . Since the new era we are being suffered rather to get electricity. At the peak of our necessity of power, we are being constantly blackmailed and cheated. How long does it exist, is quite unknown to us. To make the country move forward, elimination of mismanagement, corruption in this sector is a must. The sooner the better.
