Bangladesh-India Trade Deficit and Interest of Bangladesh
Trade deficit between Bangladesh and India is USD 2.9 billion in FY 2009-2010. While Bangladesh imported goods worth of USD 3.2 billion from India in the projected year, it is Bangladesh, on the other hand, succeeded to export goods worth of USD 300 million in India.
In this circumstance, dismantling the change of export of goods to the growing markets in the seven sisters- states due to geographical location, allowing transit India from western parts of India through Bangladesh ex-parte shall be a job of insane whereas on the point we have the opportunity to be bargained. Any agreement so done setting-aside the prospect to defend the interest of Bangladesh on the eve of visit of Monmohon Singh, the Prime Minister of India to Bangladesh is quite detrimental to the existence of Bangladesh. Leaving thousands of working hands of Bangladesh remaining unemployed, emphasizing on Import of Indian goods to Bangladesh which is growing 9% annually is a negative indication on part of Bangladesh.
Since the foreign policy of a country ought to be nourished by her own interest, it is our expectation to our leaders that they will lift up the interest of Bangladesh instead of licking feet to the foreigners.
