Bangladeshi vegetables are Cheaper ! Cheaper !! Cheaper !!!
BM Desk,3rd December ,2008
New issue has again been raised. The imported rice cost rockets day by day which issued a dart to dismantle the image of the present Government by the intellectuals who are less investigative than more committed to the interest groups. For instance, when chemical fertilizer has posed a great environmental disaster in the world, these biased intellectuals are advocating for the chemical fertilizer , even few days ago , I heard from an Inteelctual in TV talk show that without chemical fertilizer the production of the crops are seriously affected , whereas, insufficient application of modern techniques , choosing proper seeds and irrigation system which are the main causes for the insufficient production . Even they are provoking the farmers to arrange protest against the present government .In this situation, it is they who are reluctant in advocating for the bio-fertilizer made from cow dung. Secondly they are not advocating to consume other winter vegetables those are dam cheap in contrast to the international market .They are sightless to explain why one kilo of potato is sold in Dhaka 10tk, whereas, the same thing is sold in different international market by 1 dolor or 50 -68 taka, why one cauliflower is sold 8 taka, whereas, the same thing is sold 3 dollor or 105-120 taka. In contrast to the international market ,since the local agricultural goods ,for instance, potato(14 taka/kilo), cauliflower( 8taka/piece), cabbage(7-8 tk/piece) , Tomato ( 10 taka/1 kilo), chilli( 30-40 taka/kilo), Ginger( 35taka/1 kilo) , Raddish (10 taka/kilo),[ Raddish is sold 2 taka/ mound at bagmara in Rajshhi, The Daily Prothom ALo, 30 th December,2007 (www.prothom–alo.com)] , Onion ( 14 taka/kilo, although most of them are imported, only few months back it sold by 35-50taka/kilo) , Carrot (10 taka/ kilo), Cucumber (10taka/kilo) etc. Since the agricultural goods are perishable and no way to hoarding and preservation( may be not possible) the middle man conspirators even can not do anything .
We frmly belive that these cheap vegetables may be taken as the substitute to rice till the same attention is drawn to the production of rice and wheat ,sugar .Once President Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh advocated consuming potato against rice, even that is still the advocacy of the nutritionists .
Instead of pacifying and inspiring to take the vegetables, they are using the price of the rice as the tool to destabilize the politics of Bangladesh . These biased guys have specific objectives which the economic intelligence of Bangladesh may investigate about the fact . We request to the GOB (Government of Bangladesh ) to clarify and be efficient to the issue since it may be a cheap tool to destabilize the political environment of Bangladesh .
The proposals for GOB include:
Immediate action:
1. Promulgate and inspire to consume more vegetables curries available in the markets all over Bangladesh .
2. Import cheap rice from different sources other than India , because India 's behavior in relation to the issue is suspicious and controversial .
3. Check the hoarder by the application of laws valuable to check the situation against the perpetrators to throw the country in to famine to keep the attention other side while the big criminals are under trail .Some Act, laws are provifed fro the interest personalasn and to remembrance to the law and enforcing agencies .
- The Essential Commodities Control Order, 1981,
- The Control of Essential Commodities Act,1956,
- The Essential Articles (price Control and Anti-hoarding) Act,1953,
- Emergency (Regulation of Rationed Articles and Internal Procurement of Rice And paddy ) order ,1975 ,
- Esential Foodstaffs Anti Hoarding Order, 1956 etc,
(See: Laws on Essential Commodities, I.M.M Mohsin, and Bangladesh law Book Company )
4. Inquiry to the fact whether the promotional activities in the talk show is really provokes to increase the production of the agriculture or to destroy the quality of our soil by receiving inducement from the chemical fertilizer Syndicate.
Long term action:
5. Inspiring to set up integrated farming system where the farmers shall use cow dung n his field for the agricultural production increasing the production of live stock to fill up the demand of live stock all over Bangladesh .
5. Inquiry about the activities of the Agricultural Ministry why rice is not produced by maximum quantities.
5. Root out the syndicate who motivates the High level of the Government to make the agricultural goods and live stocks import dependency. For instances, milk, wheat, rice, edible oil or soybean etc. are totally import based.
Sum,
Once again we do not see any body may play with the peoples of Bangladesh to make barrier on the way to the trail of the high profile criminals. In the same time, it is our view that avoiding the reality, if the GOB plays like the previous leadership, they may be entertained the same hospitality. It may be a bizarre scene and we are reluctant to enjoy that !
