3rd Unit of Kapati Hydroelectricity Project: Abandoned after expansive repair by Italian Company.

Out of 5 units, the 3rd unit of Kaptai Hydroelectricity Project, though repaired by Sedelmy Corporation of Italy under an agreement signed on May 2008, abandoned its production after repair on 9 October, 2010, one year after the scheduled time, had again been abandoned due to the burn of coil on 28th November,2010, source added. Though the national revenue worth of two hundred crore taka has been paid to a foreign company abstained from well-reputed local company and 3 years have been passed, no action has yet to take on the part of Bangladesh Government to ensure the operation of 3rd phase of the project being charged it. Mentionable that Kaptai Hydro-electricity project is the neglected prospect of Bangladesh. In spite of having the capacity of maximum 240 megawatt of electricity from 5 units and capacity to extend its capacity, for lack of attention and unbounded mismanagement and corruption with the project, only 165 Megawatt of electricity is produced. Leaving the entire country into darkness, being abandoned such a prospective project, is an subversive act with the country, the liability which the present GOB, having nearly three year-old, can not discharge. To speed up the production of electricity, such a head is required to be rejuvenated. The sooner the better.
