BRTC BUS'S U-TURN AND ANARCHY IN THE MASS TRANSPORTATION

Bangladeshmoves Investigation, 26 May, 2011:

A.

In the face of hiking the price of CNG, the anarchy in the mass transportation has been mounted in recent days. The role of GOB is insufficient, biased and in fact corruption inflicted. Once a government looks after a certain interest group other than the interest of the mass peoples, a policy shall automatically be offered which is inflicted to incoherence and burdensome. Regards to the mass transportation, the loots in the name of hiking price of CNG is the prime instance the GOB may be accused of the charges I noted above. If there is a government, how a handful of owners may take hostage a great deal of peoples. At the beginning, BAL (Bangladesh Awami League) promised the mass to check the price of the essential commodities and also promised to arrange job at least one member of a family. All those promises have been nipped in the bud and a few peoples leading the administration being nourished by the ruling elites having vacant many posts in the public sectors, the cleverly approach which is to ‘move according to the inclination of the scale' that means the GOB has, in post cases, by passing the laws and watching the movement of the pressure group and once group is come forward showing their musscle is nourished. Sheltering share market exploiters and looking after the interest of the bus owners- it has been made clear to the conscious citizens to the side the present GOB is really inclined to. In the midst of such cleverly approach like a fox do, it is the mass who have to live in a world full of illusion rather than to be blessed with the disciplinary welfare approach.

When there is a huge volume of natural gas is reserved beneath the land of ours and huge amount of natural gas is misused in different wells in the country, it is the irony of the fate of us that the price of CNG has been being rocketed higher to the highest and we have to pass day and night without gas. If this is called ‘independence', then for demonstrating the real ‘independence' many incidents may be waited in the near future.

The most interestingly, we have to watch helplessly the burglary of the mass transportation mechanism. From both the public and private sector, such a tyranny is so shamefully staged that we can not but suffer silently. When democracy is said to be ‘for the people, by the people and of the people'; it is in fact turned into ‘for the taut, of the taut and by the taught.' in our country. For 14 kilometers' of journey, for instance MOtijheel to Pallabi, we have to pay extra eight taka. We used to pay Tk. 16 few days back, by one day interval by the name of hike of the price of CNG; it has been jumped to Tk. 24. The increase is (24-16) =8 taka (50% increase). It is a tragedy that Tk. 24 has to pay miles away at Sherapara too which should be less. Equal amount of fare (Tk.24) is payable from Pallabi to Bijoy Sharani(for instance), mass people is neither got any mercy in this regard nor they are protected by the law enforcers and other concerning body of the GOB. In relation, to the inter-service commuters, the intensity of such tyranny remains the same. Although the story of recent anarchism in the mass transportation has been annexed to the agenda of the mass media, it has neither knocked the ruling nor the opposition party which seems that they want that peoples may hold stick and come to the street! Although some Presidium members voiced; it is insufficient in terms of action. The wreath of words is less valuable than the real action taken for the relief of the burden of the mass.

Some claimed that the Chairman's room at the head office of BRTC frequently jam-packed by the leaders of the owner's association of the private bus companies so that BRTC may not serve properly. BRTC bus's service in different routes has been corroborated to the fact that BRTC itself is serving without coordination and adequate monitoring and the U-turn of a BRTC bus at Dhaur in Uttara is one of the instances that corroborates that the concerned department is regularly looks after the interest of few interest group other than the mass.

B.

It was at about half past 6 PM on 26 May, 2011. I was at the T- intersection at Dhaur in the Ashulia – Dhaka road. It is the north corner of Dhaka city. When I was waiting for a bus, all on a sudden, I saw a BRTC bus from Uttara came to that intersection and halted in front of the public toilet and hawking for Abdullahpur (Dhaka Metro –BA- 11-.. 3226 (Ineligible in the picture so it is advisable to be confirmed by the scheduled chart ). I was preparing towards Eastern Housing, just back to Mirpur Zoo. It was my first journey in this line. Once I looked at BRTC bus, I became thundered that it was scheduled to be Mirpur-12- Abdullahpur. Then snapped the bus and once I was snapping, the driver was hurriedly left the place. There was a group of members belonged to law enforcing agency did not took any action. MOst probably they thought it was not an offence or they might have been managed in otrder to change the route, when a lot of people has to wait at Uttara, Banani, Mohakhali for buses. When we contacted with different responsible persons in this regard, they claimed that BRTC had been managed by the vested groups. Their inactiveness make the vested groups continuing monopoly business and in fine the mass general people has to suffer a lot. Furthermore, at Dhaur I had the opportunity to see that the river of Turag is helplessly dying by the encroachment of the vested groups who managed different organs of the GOB for instnce, Enviornment Ministry, Water Development Board, Ministry of Shipping etc Whearas was the lifeline of Dhaka and Dhaka was built on its bank. It is supposed to be suffocated by piling the border post. The river is going to be awarded as the fate of Fakirpool drain or Dholikhal. What a pathetic scene it is! Modern water vessels having safety kits which could add the charm of mass transportation around the river route of Dhaka alike different countries in the world is supposed to be a wish of a nonsense whereas we vow to touch the peak of the Himalayas. If we could touch the peak of the Himalayas, we can expect the service in regards to the mass transportation alike different countries. Neither it is an extravagance nor a luxury, it is our right which we deserve to enjoy.

Such anarchy can not be staged without the collaboration of the apex authority and hassle in the mass transportation both in the water and land shall be intensified unless the authority enforces his power to make irregularity a tailor.
