Caption:Such a car which usually carries one person kills at least 18 square feet surface area of the road where 25 peoples are to be occupied by the same surface while they are transported by a bus or pick up van. Such a discriminatory allocation of road is one the reason to be public suffering under the name of ‘traffic jam’. On the other hand, paying tax to the GOB, the car riders should not abstained from begging the facilitation for a wide and sufficient road which must be prepared by the GOB.
‘Eighteen square-feet’ and ‘Traffic Jam’ Story in Dhaka
Muhammad Shamim Akhter, 03 September, 2011:
Traffic jam is one of the chronic problems in the lives of Dhaka city dwellers, which pushes us to be convinced to think to be emigrated to the so called livable city like Melbourne including other cities where kicking population out have been made livable emblem.
Being frustrated to be abstained from moving up there, we are at last, bound to live in Dhaka where it takes 25 minutes to Gulistan from Pallabi on the eve of Eid vacation while it takes one or one and twenty minutes, at times, usually. I had the opportunity to be lived at least two years in Sydney where I witnessed for millions of peoples roads, trains and sea ferries have been arranged for the transportation of the mass. Since I could not bring money or honey from the colonial Bangladesh, I had been put into the refuge camp and deported, after that I tried to share by experience with the country men so that we may build our country. What I have experienced, is that the ‘thief can not hear the story of religion’; the thief who wants or directed to be seized the money of Bangladesh, pay a little heed to it. Few years back, I had the opportunity to be read about the fact of Chief Engineer of Local Government and Engineering Department (LGRD) who had bought in Melbourne, Australia.
Lack of sound policies which may mitigate these problems have been avoided. There are city circle around Dhaka city by the bank of river, has not been constructed on priority basis, making bridge on the railway and road intersection like Mallibag, Moghbazar, FDC, Tejgaon, Tejkunipara, Mahakhali, Cantonment, (although over bridge is being built in front of President Guard Regiment and Khilkhet ) in order to keep alive the existing railway system, priority basis over bridge at Shamoli, Asadgate, Rasel Square, science laboratory, diverting flow of Mirpur road towards the roads on embankment by increasing eight lanes, using Kawran bazaar to Satrasta link road clear and using traffic flow diverting traffic flows towards Badda, Rampura and Gulshan up to dam road ( there are very improved road infrastructure in Tejgaon industrial area), Implementation of Tube Train which had been processed in the Ministry of Communication during CG government which system has been contributing relieving traffic jam in Kolkata, nothing drastic steps have been taken for Dhaka city dwellers. The roads which the previous Governments have made have been shattered due to the lack of periodic maintenance. Last year, we have come to know that for the development of Dhaka, DCC have declared budget of thousands crore taka, it have all been poured in the pocket of the thieves who are using the state mechanism to loot and to smuggle to any foreign safe heaven where the few corrupts may live with the relatives keeping the forbidden money in a bank where they might get periodic return on the basis of usury. We can not but to react about to see the festival of loot, smuggle of national wealth, that we are sure to be a situation our last resort Bangladesh may be Somalia, or Nigeria. The wreath of words by the top persons of the state is nothing but to whisper of corruption. Making conjugal life with the self declared ‘corrupts public servants’ we can not but to except deception, corruption, famine, dependency on neighboring state. Except few foot lickers, most of the peoples are agreed that the country is not advancing at its usual mood.
As far as eighteen square feet concerned, it is to be clarified. If you go to the roads of Dhaka, you will find lots of cars in the city. Under the survey, I have found out that on average a private car covers at least eighteen square foot of the street, in the same space in bus, at least 25 passengers are being carried. In this Eid, a launch having capacity to carry 700 passengers, has carried 3000 passengers, unless any accident is occurred if such discrimination in the transportation sector is supported by the Prime Minster which many has heard, is unthankfully wish to their exclusion. If elimination of discrimination extended from West Pakistan was the sole basis of amputation of Pakistan, I the citizen of Bangladesh, want to say that we are discriminatorily treated by the hand of state now. Those who have the capacity to buy cars pay tax and we can not let it be said that they should be ridden on bullock cart since they pay thousands of taka as tax to the GOB so that with that amount the latter may build up roads, unless spending for new roads, if those money are smuggled in the foreign countries, we are sorry to say ‘ Asalamualikum.’
Few pictures of road and traffic management in Dhaka (Which may be similar to other cities) regulated under Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operative and Ministry of Home Affairs (Traffic).
